Why choose a web-based platform for your WMS?

Traditionally, the precursors to web-based platforms have always been on-premises software solutions. These typically required significant upfront investment in hardware, software, and IT infrastructure. And the costs involved in all this infrastructure have historically been a major barrier to entry for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs).

Newer, web-based platforms – like our home-grown User Services Portal (USP) – are hosted in the cloud and can be accessed through any device with a mobile browser, which this means that they can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection – reducing the need for on-site servers and helping managers take what were office-based activities out onto the Warehouse floor.

There are huge advantages to this, not least a reduction in errors and an increase in efficiency.

Then, there’s the fact that web-based platforms offer greater flexibility and scalability than on-premises solutions. For example, with USP, you can easily add or remove users, adjust storage capacity, and scale up or down as your business needs change – something that’s much harder to do with older solutions, which often require significant time and resources to upgrade or modify.

Something that our USP customers really appreciate is the increase in real-time visibility and control that they have (and can share with other stakeholders). It’s easy to monitor inventory levels, track shipments, and manage orders in real-time, from anywhere in the world. This level of visibility and control is usually not possible with traditional on-premises solutions.

And because web-based platforms are typically more user-friendly and easier to use than the traditional alternatives, training times can be much-reduced. Which means that staff can more easily switch roles, and staffing levels can be quickly increased to provide cover during peak times.

In the case of Socius24, our software was designed to be intuitive and easy to navigate, with simple interfaces that require minimal training. The system can even be configured to only offer the user screens that they need to do the task they’ve been assigned.

All of this means that your team can get up and running quickly, without the need for extensive training or support, and that your data can stay safe and secure.

Modern Warehouse Managers have a wide and diverse role, only one small part of which is the efficient management of the actual warehouse itself. Moving WMS operations to being web-based helps all the different parts of that role work more easily together.

The right WMS plays a critical role in ensuring that goods and materials are delivered efficiently and cost-effectively, while meeting the needs of customers and stakeholders. Newer, web-based platforms offer significant advantages over traditional on-premises solutions, including greater flexibility, scalability, real-time visibility and control, and ease of use. If you’re looking to improve your warehouse management systems, a web-based platform might be exactly what you need.
